Online dating ads using image of deceased Texas soldier

DALLAS — The advertisements say “Soliders want you” and “Military Men Searching for Love” next to a picture of a serviceman.

There’s just one problem: The solider in the advertisement, Lt. Peter Burks, died in Baghdad in 2007, leaving behind his family and his fiance, Missy.

Seeing the image of his fallen son being used without approval to promote dating ads infuriates Burks’ father, Alan, and transports him back to a dark place.

“It brought back the memories when we were notified by the Department of Defense,” Mr. Burks said through tears.

Four years after Lt. Burks’ death, his father still wears his son’s dog tags.

“It was so wrong,” Alan Burks said. “Peter was a good kid. He loved Missy. And it was so dishonoring to her, to him, and his family.”

Alan Burks is suing Dallas-based True.com and Candada-based PlentyofFish.com for using his son’s image without approval. The suit says they…………… continues on KVUE

Toronto police make arrest in online dating scam

Toronto police have arrested a man after a woman who visited an online dating website was cheated out of $ 15,000.

Police allege the man posed as a personal trainer or recruiting agent for professional sports teams. He is accused of targeting a woman starting last Dec. 30 and convincing her to transfer $ 15,000 to him in exchange for having her debts erased.

Romelo Woods, 37, has been charged with two counts of fraud, two counts of failure to attend court and obstruction of a peace officer. Police said Woods is also known as Jake Simon, Jesse Simon and Simon Wright.
